The story
Oak Grove started out as a conversation around the breakfast table. Mid-career professionals with two young boys, we wondered what it would be like if we could cut out the daily commute and blend family life with working hard doing something we believed in. Much as the term ‘husband and wife team’ made us cringe, we couldn’t ignore the obvious overlap between Innovation and Sustainability- our respective fields.
We’d often thought how great it would be if instead of sitting in Corporate Comms or Group Risk, the Sustainability Director shared an office with the Head of Innovation, acting as mutual sounding boards and sharing challenges and solutions. Then we realised we had the opportunity to do just that.
With nearly 40 years combined experience across the private, charity and education sectors, we saw the potential to champion responsible innovation and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world. Collaboration is central to our work.
We want to offer what we are best at, what we feel passionate about and what we feel will make a positive difference. We are determined to live our values, and volunteer our time to work with charitable organisations we believe in.
Which brings us to Oak Grove - the name, in case you were wondering. It’s a literal translation of the founders’ Swedish surname - Ekelund. We like that it conjures up stability, growth, acorns and ecosystems.
